Three to six months out is ideal, particularly for peak seasons (October–March in East Africa, September–December for Madagascar). These windows are when seasonal movements concentrate birds and when lodges fill fast. That said, we've successfully accommodated late bookings when availability aligns. The sooner you plan, the more itinerary options we have.
This is exactly what we do. Send your species wish list, and our ornithologist team will research seasonal distributions, habitat requirements, recent sighting records, and local knowledge to build an optimal route. We think in terms of elevations, forest types, and habitat transitions , the ecological factors that determine where specific birds will be in specific months.
Six people maximum per guide. Not because that's what our logistics allow , it's because that's the group size that permits genuine field ornithology. Beyond six, observations become hurried and attention gets fragmented. Six allows everyone to linger on difficult identifications. We offer solo traveler packages with dedicated guides, and for larger groups we simply assign additional guides so each still works in small numbers.
Accommodation, every meal, ground transport, park entrance fees, expert guide services, and airport transfers are included. Your international flights, visas, travel insurance, and personal purchases are your responsibility. Each tour page details the specific inclusions and exclusions. We're transparent about costs because birders deserve to know exactly what they're paying for.
Most circuits involve moderate daily walking , typically 3 to 8 kilometers on forest trails and savanna tracks. Montane and rainforest tours require stronger fitness for sustained uphill walking on uneven terrain. We rate each tour by difficulty and can adjust itineraries for specific fitness levels or mobility concerns. Tell us your constraints, and we'll work within them.
Absolutely. We're birding-first operators, but our routes traverse ecosystems that support extraordinary wildlife. You'll encounter mountain gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda, forest elephants, primates, big cats, and countless other mammals. If you want to balance dedicated birding with broader wildlife experiences, we'll integrate both into a meaningful itinerary.
