Central Mozambique's Ecological Masterpiece

This 5-day safari circuit showcases Mozambique's most ecologically diverse and accessible region , combining Africa's great ecological recovery story with spectacular wetland birding and authentic miombo woodland experience.

Gorongosa National Park stands as one of Africa's extraordinary conservation achievements: a landscape devastated during civil war, now restored into a functioning showcase of ecological complexity. Over 400 bird species call this park home across diverse habitats. The Cheringoma Plateau's mature miombo woodland represents southern Africa's finest example of this iconic habitat, where open structure allows excellent observation and vocal activity peaks during breeding season. The Zambezi Valley's grand river system creates Africa's largest seasonal floodplain spectacle, attracting waterbird concentrations that rival the world's greatest wetlands.

We operate as a small group with expert ornithologist guidance, emphasizing vehicle-based game-drive birding at Gorongosa and Zambezi, woodland walks at Cheringoma, and boat-based wetland work where water permits. This methodology suits the habitats and maximizes both flagship sightings and unexpected finds.

Five days permit thorough exploration of three dramatically different ecosystems , a rare opportunity in African birding. Early-morning starts, thermal-break afternoons, and sunset sessions ensure maximum species detection. Comfortable lodge accommodations allow full engagement with the landscape and wildlife experiences that define central Mozambique.

Gorongosa → Cheringoma Plateau Cheringoma · Miombo woodland

Ascend from Gorongosa's floodplains to the Cheringoma Plateau's miombo woodlands. This transition zone offers entirely different bird communities. Miombo Tits call from the canopy in active mixed flocks. Böhm's Bee-eaters perch prominently, and Pale-billed Hornbills move through open woodland. The higher elevation and drier woodland create a distinct acoustic landscape. Afternoon rest and evening birding from the lodge grounds.
